Google now helps you find location of hidden trackers used for stalking

Google is rolling out an update to its location tracker alert system that will help you find a location tracker that might be hidden near you and used by a stalker.

Right now, if an unknown device using Google’s Find My Device networks is travelling with you, you will get an alert on your phone.

In the next Google update, you’ll also be able to make the tracker play a sound so you can pinpoint its location. You can also use Bluetooth to find the tracker’s location the same way you’d find one you own.

Google is taking things a step further by also allowing people who are being tracked to temporarily pause their location for 24 hours on their phone so that the tracker isn’t able to bounce off their device’s location to alert the tracker’s owner where it is. Ideally, in this 24-hour window, you can use the other features to find and get rid of the tracker.

This update is rolling out now for devices that are compatible with Google’s Find My Device network and will work on most phones running Android six or above.
