S Pen could lose Bluetooth on the Galaxy S25 Ultra: leak

Bad news for S Pen fans: the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen will reportedly ditch Bluetooth, potentially limiting some features.

The news comes from leaker Ishan Agarwal, who shared on Twitter/X that the S Pen “will no longer feature Bluetooth according to retail sources.” Agarwal is a fairly reliable leaker, but as with any leak, it’s best to be skeptical.

With the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the S Pen used Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) to communicate with the phone. This enabled features like Air gesture controls and the use of the S Pen as a remote shutter button for taking pictures.

If Samsung drops Bluetooth connectivity on the S Pen with the S25 Ultra, those features might go away, too. However, Android Police suggested that Samsung might switch to another connectivity standard. But Agarwal doesn’t specify in the leak, so we may have to wait for the S25 Ultra reveal to learn what Samsung has planned.

Whatever happens, here’s hoping Samsung doesn’t downgrade the S Pen functionality. It won’t be too much longer until we know for sure. Samsung is holding its Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22nd, where it’s widely expected to unveil the Galaxy S25 series. Plus, if you register for the event, you can get a $100 e-voucher toward one of the new phones.
