Koodo, Fido, Virgin offer /60GB and more after trying to match each other

It’s been about a week since the Big Three flanker brands, Koodo, Fido and Virgin Plus, ended their Black Friday deals and launched new, more expensive plans. For a while they all had different plans on offer, but now the three have tried to match each other, resulting in one big switch up.

Koodo and Fido moved to match Virgin Plus’ plans, which included $39/60GB 4G and $44/100GB 4G options. However, Virgin Plus attempted to match Fido’s previous $49/80GB plan by reducing the amount of data it offered on its $44/100GB plan to 80GB.

Here’s a breakdown of every provider’s plans (in no particular order).

Table of Contents

Virgin Plus

  • $39/60GB 4G with Canada/U.S. calling (unchanged).
  • $44/80GB 4G with unlimited long-distance calling to Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, and the U.K. (previously 100GB with Canada/U.S. calling).

Overall, I suspect we’ll see Virgin move back to the $44/100GB plan or the others come down to $44/80GB in the coming days. I’m used to seeing Koodo, Fido and Virgin copy each others plans and pricing, but this is the first time in a while where they’ve tried to match each other at the same time like this.

It also goes without saying, but these plans still aren’t great, even if they are better than what was on offer last week. If you’re hunting for the best plan for you, check out our rate plans tool here.
