New Fetch TV Mini G5 offers unique combo: live FTA, Android apps, FAST channels, free & paid streaming, cable channels & pay per view

Fetch TV today announced that it has released a world first hybrid RDK-Android Opensource operating system in the latest Fetch Mini G5 device, positioning Fetch as unique way in Australia to watch free to air live TV, streaming FTA catch-up apps, Android audio/video entertainment apps, subscription apps, cable TV streaming and catch-up channels.

The development is the first platform implementation of the innovative AndApps solution from Consult Red, and enables Fetch to easily add Android apps into the RDK ecosystem to enhance the content choice, value and user experience for Fetch customers, whilst maintaining the operator benefits of data security, UX monetisation and transaction management.

Fetch hasn’t mentioned it but could this mean the Mini G5 can have Kayo, Binge and the other Foxtel apps installed on it via Android app store?

For now at least the older streaming only Mini 4K and Mighty with hard drive for recording are also still being sold. In the longer run it makes sense to phase out the old Mini 4K. The Mighty will probably remain for some years as a way to attract defectors from Foxtel who are used to recording FTA and cable channels.

Currently available with the new Fetch Mini G5, the AndApps  functionality will be added to existing Mighty and Mini 4K devices later this year, cementing the core Fetch proposition as “The way to watch” TV channels, shows, movies and streaming; and paving the way for future product enhancements including games, lifestyle and AI-powered smart home applications.

Dominic Arena the new CEO of Fetch commented:

“We have invested heavily over the past year to pioneer this revolutionary hybrid technology together with our software integration partner, Consult Red, to enable us to deliver an unmatched suite of family-friendly entertainment and lifestyle options all in one place, on Fetch”.

“We’ve upped the game in the Australian home entertainment market where no one today matches the Fetch platform’s breadth of features, capabilities and options for family households at such an affordable price.”

The new Mini G5 is the smallest, most powerful, feature rich, and best value Fetch device to date.

Measuring just 10cm square, this 4K device includes 4GB of RAM, 21.8K DMIPs processor speed, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, a USB accessory port, and a free-to-air tuner, with an RRP of $149.

In addition to FTA channels and apps, premium subscription channels, FAST channels, and all the market leading streaming apps, Fetch users also have access to a Movie Store with over 11,000 titles to buy or rent.

Viewers using the Mini G5 can also use the Fetch’s 7-day Reverse TV Guide to access shows they may have missed, and can even connect multiple pairs of Bluetooth headphones for silent viewing and enhanced individual enjoyment of TV, Movies and Music on Fetch.

The Mini G5 is available now from Telstra, iiNet, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys.
