A new Lego set based on Nintendo’s retro Game Boy handheld will launch in October.

In a short video on social media, the Japanese gaming giant didn’t actually show the full look of the set, instead merely spotlighting some of its pieces, including the black D-pad and magenta A and B buttons. Pricing for the set is also yet to be confirmed.

In any case, it’s a pretty exciting and nostalgic offering from the two companies, given the popularity of the Game Boy. It also joins the likes of Nintendo and Lego’s ever-growing catalogue of products, including sets based on the NES and SNES consoles, as well as several inspired by MarioDonkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda.

What’s also quite amusing about this Lego Game Boy announcement is that it comes right as all eyes are on Nintendo for a new hardware announcement. After all, we’ve seen an ever-increasing deluge of leaks related to its next console, colloquially referred to as the ‘Switch 2,’ as of late, including this week at CES in Vegas. Rumours have also indicated that Nintendo will finally unveil the console sometime this month. And hey, Nintendo did make a hardware-related announcement this week, just not at all what we expected.

Of course, this Lego announcement doesn’t preclude a Switch 2 reveal from also happening in the coming days, so hopefully, we get that sooner rather than later.
