Nintendo reportedly sent lawyers to Genki’s CES 2025 booth last week over the accessory maker’s mockup of its next console.

At the tech conference, Genki was promoting a replica of Nintendo’s next system, informally referred to as the ‘Switch 2,’ which it had repeatedly claimed was based on real hardware it had seen. However, the company soon walked this all back, claiming its Switch 2 mockup was simply based on existing leaks, suggesting it had heard from Nintendo.

And sure enough, that did happen, according to well-known French tech journalist Julien Tellouck. Per Tellouck, Nintendo’s legal team visited Genki’s booth to investigate, but Genki claimed it had never signed an NDA and, therefore, hadn’t broken any rules.

Of course, we don’t know the specifics of any potential agreements between Nintendo and Genki, so it’s quite possible that Genki is legally safe. But regardless, it seems short-sighted of the accessory maker to get on Nintendo’s bad side in the long term just for some extra publicity now. Nintendo is known for being a particularly litigious company, as well, so there could be recourse down the line if it discovers some other perceived wrongdoing.

For now, though, all signs are pointing to a long-awaited Switch 2 reveal this week. Given all of these leaks, including those from Genki, we’d say it’s about time.
