SpaceX launched its compact Starlink Mini terminal in Canada at a special discounted rate.

For those unfamiliar, Starlink Mini is a smaller version of the company’s Starlink satellite internet hardware intended for travel, such as using it on an RV. Starlink Mini is now available to Canadians at a special price of $399 until January 6th.

It’s not immediately clear from the Starlink website what the regular cost is for the Starlink Mini hardware is, but as Tesla North points out, it costs $599 USD south of the border, which works out to roughly $848 CAD. That suggests the discounted price is about half what the hardware should be, assuming Starlink intends to have a roughly equivalent Canadian price to the U.S. price. Either way, we’ll find out for sure on January 6th.

Customers need to fork out a monthly fee for the service along with the hardware cost. Starlink has two options for service, a $189/mo Roam ‘Unlimited’ plan and a $70/mo 50GB plan. The plans appear to be the same aside from the 50GB data cap on the $70/mo plan. Starlink allows customers to pay for more data by the gigabyte in the app.

The plans include the ability to pause service when you don’t need it and use Starlink while moving at speeds of up to 160km/h and more.

While pricey, I could see the Starlink Mini being particularly popular with RV and camping enthusiasts who don’t want to be without a connection while out in the wild. Coupled with the ability to pause service when not needed, Starlink Mini could be a really flexible option.
